The flavors I created were:
Maple Almond – 1 tbsp maple syrup and 1 tsp pure almond extract
Cinnamon Vanilla – 1 tsp cinnamon extract and 1 tsp vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)
Mocha – 2 tbsp cocoa powder and 1 tsp espresso powder
Coffee – 1/2 tbsp espresso powder
Once the flavors were added, I screwed on the lids and shook them well before refrigerating. I labeled each jar lid with a sharpie and that was it! I chilled them for an hour, brewed some coffee and tested them out on my family. It was unanimous… we’ll be using homemade creamer from now on.If you’re working with powders like cocoa and espresso, shaking won’t be enough to get everything fully incorporated, so you’ll want to use a blender or food processor, mix, and then pour the creamer into your jar. If you prefer a rich creamer, you can substitute heavy cream for half and half.
Homemade Coffee Creamers
Save money by making these homemade coffee creamers. In your choice of Maple Almond, Cinnamon Vanilla, Mocha, and Coffee flavors
Ingredients
- 4 pint sized canning jars
- Half and Half
- Sweetened condensed milk
Instructions
- Add equal parts sweetened condensed milk and half and half to each jar. (I used up the whole can of milk and left about an inch of room at the top of each jar for flavorings and shaking space.)
Flavors
- Maple Almond - 1 tbsp maple syrup and 1 tsp pure almond extract
- Cinnamon Vanilla - 1 tsp cinnamon extract and 1 tsp vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)
- Mocha - 2 tbsp cocoa powder and 1 tsp espresso powder
- Coffee - 1/2 tbsp espresso powder
- Once the flavors are added, screw on the lids and shake them well before refrigerating. Label each jar lid with a sharpie!
- Chill them for at least one hour, brew some coffee, and enjoy.
- Keep the homemade coffee creamers well covered and store in the refrigerator.
- Note: If you're working with powders like cocoa and espresso, shaking won't be enough to get everything fully incorporated, so you'll want to use a blender or food processor, mix, and then pour the creamer into your jar. If you prefer a rich creamer, you can substitute heavy cream for half and half.

Hi! I’ve been trying to find a good mocha creamer recipe. I made this one yesterday and tried it in my coffee this morning. It’s perfect… awesome, I wouldn’t change a thing! Thank you so much!
Wendy O'Neal says
So glad you loved it! w-
Dawn Silva says
Love making my own creamer, saves money & I can make the flavors as strong as I want them.
I was wondering if you have tried sweetened condensed milk & evaporated milk, instead of half n half?
Wendy O'Neal says
I haven’t tried it that way Dawn. Please chime back in here if you do and how it works. w-
Belinda says
What would be the recipe for Chocolate Hazelnut? Also how does this freeze? I love International Delight Chocolate Hazelnut but it is only available at Christmas time. I have tried freezing it and it freezes soft like ice cream. I have tried mixing it 1 part coffee 2 parts creamer and it is still ice cream soft (and now my oldest tries to sneak and eat them). I love having creamer cubes because it cools the coffee down to the perfect drinking temp I just need to find a chocolate hazelnut that will freeze hard
Leila says
Genius! And in the end, it would be cheaper than store bought, no? I am definitely going to price this out and try some new flavors! How exciting!!
Alexia Hodge says
How would I make mocha almond?
Wendy O'Neal says
Alexia, I would use a mix of cocoa powder and almond extract. w-
Chris says
Thanks for this recipe and post. My coworkers and I really go through a lot of flavored creamer – this might be fun to try instead. I really love coconut cream, hazelnut and caramel macchiato. Nutella works fine for chocolate hazelnut – anyone have ideas about the other two?
One more question: How long do these keep?
Wendy O'Neal says
I’d say it keeps a least a week or two, but it never lasts that long at my house. We drink it so fast. w-
Barbie says
I was reading through comments..love making my own and a must try is homemade condensed milk..taste fresher yet and so good!
One question is how to thoroughly mix dry cinnamon..it always sinks to the bottom and my hubby doesn’t mix it enough so you have thick junk toward the end
Wendy O'Neal says
I use one of these Milk Frothers. It’s great. But then I do give my creamers a little shake before I pour into my coffee too. w-
Juan Miguel says
So what am I waiting for? I’m gonna drop at the grocery and buy ingredients for this hazelnut coffee recipe and do it myself. Really excited about how great and tasty it would be. The aroma I would get would probably be perfect.
Holly says
How do you know how much to mix to make Irish Cream or pumpkin spice or what to even use.
Debra says
Sounds yummy! Can anyone come up with a butterfinger creamer recipe?!
Robin W says
My husband is the coffee drinker in the family but I think this is awesome!! I have a neighbor who won’t drink coffee without something like this added. I think almond, hazelnut or pumpkin would be great flavors to make. I’d even add them to my cocoa!
Margot C says
Such a great idea! You could put these in the teachers lounge at school!
Rosie says
I have quite a few extracts and spices, and I would love to try this!! I have really been into fun drinks (non-alcoholic) this year, this would be a nice way to use some of the stash I have!
Faye Gates says
I love these recipes! I’m a coffee addict, and I love flavored creamers.
Bonnie says
I am not a coffee drinker but usually when it starts getting colder out int he midwest (for winter) I drink hot tea and cocoa and add creamer flavor once in a while . . . now when I make my oatmeal (1/2 cup oats, 1 cup waters in micro-cooker, 2 min in microwave), I do use a creamer and not any other sugars, etc. so this will be awesome! WW lets you have oatmeal and 2 T creamer for very little pts – hot sure who your recipe wold stack up for pts! haha
Wendy O'Neal says
Oh..love the idea of adding it to oatmeal! Brilliant! ~w

I don’t even drink coffee and this is AMAZING! Such a great idea, except almonds aren’t exactly affordable :/ lol. Still, I will pass this onto my mother!

bookmarked! this is a fabulous idea. and i need creamer for my coffee but i hate buying the soy creamer at my local market
Amy M. C. says
I like this idea! I think this would be much better for you than what you can buy in the stores…too many artificial ingredients.
Lisa L. says
Thanks for sharing.. I like making different coffees too by using 2 spoons of french vanilla and 2 spoons of regular. Add any kind of powder for flavor. This is up my alley.
Chelsey says
I love coffee creamer! I have to have coffee and creamer daily! I really enjoyed this post and would love to try to make these. The sound like they would taste amazing and actually seem pretty easy to make! 🙂
Beth L says
I tried this recipe tonight. I made 4 different kinds.
Chocolate Caramel with 2 tsp of cocoa and 1 tsp of caramel extract
Peppermint Mocha with 2 tsp of cocoa and about 1/2 tsp of peppermint extract
Almond Joy with 2 tsp of cocoa, 1 tsp of coconut extract and 1/8 tsp of almond extract
Vanilla with 1 tsp of Mexican vanilla
They all taste good plain. I can’t wait to add them to coffee. Thanks for the inspiration!

What would you use to make Sweet Italian Cream?
Nancy says
These all sound fabulous but wondering how
one can do these sugar free for us diabetics?
ashlie says
Could either of these recipes be dairy free?? What would I substitute? ?
Wendy O'Neal says
That’s a little tricky. I’m working on a dairy free version, but I haven’t perfected it yet. 🙂 Hopefully I’ll have it up soon.
LoriK says
try almond milk, coconut milk, cashew milk. if you need to make a non-dairy condensed milk, try this:
http://detoxinista.com/2012/08/sweetened-condensed-coconut-milk/
they also have either almond or coconut coffee creamers if anyone can’t use half and half.
bri says
How would we make a pumpkin spice flavored creamer? I love that flavor, but dont have the money to waste on the store bought creamer or waste any product if I get it wrong.
Wendy O'Neal says
Depends on if you want to have pumpkin in it or just pumpkin pie spiced. You could add in some canned pumpkin pie filling and a dash of spices or just some spices. Enjoy.
Beth L says
I saw pumpkin spice extract at Walmart today.
jayme says
Do you know if hazelnut creamer could be made? I’ve been looking for something natural and healthy and not ye creamers loaded with sugar and syrups and stuff that is the good for your system

Lovely! Create a recipe for raspberry mocha yet? No one sells it anymore!!
Thanks for the recipies!!
Beka says
This may sound like a dumb question, but how much milk and half and half did you use exactly? I know you used the whole can of milk, but without knowing the size of the can (in ounces or cups) it is hard to quantify. Sorry! I want to make this but do not have jars like that.
Ps. Chocolate raspberry sounds delicious, you could also try milk-chocolate-covered cashew. Hmm I think I should try that
olivia says
I would love to make chocolate mint & white chocolate raspberry any one know how I can do this please let me know thx

these look fabulous, thanks so much for posting – we all eat wayyyy to much crap in the way of proccessed foods and packaged mixes etc

Love it! Thank you so much for sharing. 😀 Do you have suggestions for pumpkin spice and York Peppermint Patty? The pumpkin is seasonal and I generally try to stock my freezer up on a few. Apparently, the York is now no longer available. 🙁 But I’ll definitely have to try making it after seeing your results. :p Happy happy happy!!
Florence says
I usually buy the Carmel Chocolate creamer. What would you suggest in that please?

coffeelover84 says
Would soy milk work with these?
Wendy O'Neal says
I think so, but I haven’t tried that yet. I plan on trying with almond milk since I prefer it over soy.
Terri says
These look fabulous! Thank you for sharing. How would you make French vanilla creamer?
Wendy O'Neal says
Hi Terri. There really is no difference in the flavor profile of those two vanillas. In ice cream, French vanilla usually includes egg and is more of a custard. Sometimes, the smell of a french vanilla product is changed to smell a bit differently than regular vanilla. Really there isn’t going to be big difference in vanilla vs French vanilla in the creamers. So just leave the cinnamon out of the cinnamon vanilla and you will have a tasty vanilla creamer! 🙂 Hope that helps!
DAWN RENEE' says
Thank you thank you thank you!!! I have been racking my brain trying to come up with a way to make my own creamers and had no success. I do not like all the chemicals not to mention the cost with store bought but cannot drink my coffee without my flavored creamer (it also serves as my sweetener). My favorite in store flavor is sweet italian cream (I drink Mexican chocolate coffee and it matches perfectly). I will be playing with this tomorrow and again cannot thank you so much.
Julie says
Thanks for the alternative to commercial brands that are full of chemicals!!
Sandi says
Sweetened condensed milk has a lot of sugar in it? I don’t know – I seldom buy it. Is there a way to make it at home using maybe stevia?
Jelli says
These are great recipes! I’ve been meaning to make some flavored syrups for my coffee, but maybe I’ll stick with creamers instead. Mixing sweetened condensed milk with half and half for the base sounds perfect, & that way I know I wouldn’t need to add more sugar.
nicole gervais says
Ah thank you so much this is awesome, you rock!
Heather says
I’m thinking chai. I have a chai spice blend I made and that would be yummy with coconut instead of dairy. Another project!
Hannah Atkinson says
I made these on Saturday for a food swap that I went to and they were a huge hit! I made up my own version of Mint Chocolate creamer by using peppermint extract (it’s a little strong so I recommend using only a 1/4 tsp of peppermint extract). And I improvised with the mocha one by using instant French Roast coffee (I couldn’t find espresso powder anywhere). It actually turned out to be delicious! The vanilla maple was the crowd favorite! 🙂 Thanks for this recipe. I will never have to buy creamer again!
amft says
The mint chocolate sound so good! Thanks for sharing with us.

Jessica says
Loved these recipes! Can’t wait to try them! Just wondering if you’ve come up with a mint one yet, I can hardly wait!!! Thanks!
Hannah Atkinson says
I commented below before I saw your question. See my below comment for what I tried. 🙂
Heather A says
I have tried this but instead of half and half I used almond milk, that’s what I drink. I have found its very good and that other versions of almond milk work to just alter the taste a little but still good. Just can’t use a nut extract, I learned that the hard way. Just a tip if anyone is allergic to cows milk like I am.
Cj says
Can you give a break down on calories/fat per serving? do you use 1-2 T. per cup of coffee?
I love a coconut/vanilla combo and may try this with coconut milk.
Jess says
That would depend entirely upon the ingredients you use. Just check the nutritional information on your cream and other additives and (try to) do the math. It’s a pain, but much easier for you to do than someone who can’t see what ingredients you’re using 🙂
brooke says
I wonder if this would work with Coconut milk creamer instead of half and half? Not sure if it would alter the flavor or consistency too much to use it. Also, how long do these keep?
Tiffany | offbeat + inspired says
Using Coconut milk creamer would work just fine! The flavors would be altered a tad, since the coconut milk doesn’t have the same fat content as regular milk. But if you’re used to coconut milk, the flavor difference wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing! These can keep 2-4 weeks in the refrigerator. I always sniff and taste test before using though, just in case! 🙂
JenZ says
For the cocoa and espresso powders, you could mix the powder in a tablespoon or two of boiling water before mixing into the milk to get it combined better 🙂
Tiffany | offbeat + inspired says
Great tip!! 🙂
Lia says
I was wondering, how long would you say these are good for? 2 weeks? more? And do you have any ideas for storing long term so I don’t have to make more every time I run out??
p.s. can’t wait to try these 🙂
Patricia says
I wanted to also know how long they are good for.
Thanks, and can’t wait to try!
xo
Tiffany | offbeat + inspired says
2-4 weeks would be a safe bet, since the shelf life will vary based on how much extract or flavor liqueur you used. I haven’t attempted freezing these, but according to what I know about freezing dairy, you should be able to store them in the freezer for a few months and then just thaw and shake well before using! Any time you freeze dairy, the consistency can change a bit, so as long as you’re okay with the possibility of the creamer being a little thicker or runnier than it was originally, this could work for you! 🙂
Tara Lynn says
Take the creamer after it is mixed, pour it into a ice cube tray and freeze. Once frozen pop them out and put them into a ziplock bag. Makes AWESOME frozen coffee’s. You will Love these!! Thank you for these recipes!! I love them! **HUGS**
Wendy O'Neal says
Great Tip! Thanks Tara Lynn. ~w
Cindy says
Please let me know also if you can come up with a hazelnuts or French vanilla one. My husband loves coffee and those are his go to flavors…just trying to gt him something better than store bought. I am not as creative so would need a recipe. Thank you for sharing!
Tiffany | offbeat + inspired says
For French Vanilla, I would combine a regular vanilla extract with a little bit of butter flavoring (like this one: http://www.mccormick.com/Spices-and-Flavors/Extracts-and-Food-Colors/Extracts/Imitation-Butter-Flavor ). For Hazelnut, I would just add a teaspoon of Hazelnut Extract and complement it with a little bit of vanilla. How much of each flavoring you use really depends on your personal tastes, so keep sniffing as you add flavors and do a little taste testing to see what you like! 🙂
Kara says
This is fantastic – how long do they last?
Tiffany | offbeat + inspired says
The shelf life will vary based on whether you’re using extracts and liqueurs or not. I would say anywhere from 2-4 weeks! (That is if you’re using fresh dairy and not dairy that is nearly expired!) Always give it a sniff and a tiny taste before using, just to be safe! 🙂
Jen Blacker says
Would you think about trying a hazelnut version? That’s the flavor I always buy for my coffee I make at home. I have to try the mocha one soon I do have all the ingredients. Thank you so much for sharing this I know it’s on my list to try now!
Tiffany | offbeat + inspired says
Absolutely! You can just purchase some hazelnut extract and use it like you would any other nut extract! I would probably add some vanilla to deepen the flavor a bit, too. 🙂
Danijela says

I would have to do something with caramel or toffee.
Would using flavored syrups work in place of the extracts? Or would they not be strong enough?
I rarely use creamers myself, but my sisters do & they will want this recipe!
Tiffany | offbeat + inspired says
Ohh caramel and toffee would be great! I think syrups could definitely work, though you may need a bit more to get the full flavor.
David says
Use a Heath Toffee candy bar. Break into small pieces and heat the base coffee creamer in pan and dissolve the Heath candy bar….Like a Belgian Chocolate Toffee Creamer
jennifer says
WOW!!! I CAN’T WAIT TO TRY YOUR IDEA.That was my favorite creamer & I can’t find it anymore.
Cheryl says
I like white chocolate , could u melt chips and use it , or would they get hard agaid?
What about a caramel recipie ?
Becky Sue Becker says
I have made a caramel creamer just using 1/2 and 1/2 (one quart) + 1/2 cup caramel + 1 tsp vanilla. It was just not very sweet — not like the chemical mess you can buy at the store anyway 🙂 So I add some honey as I serve it.
I am going to try using the sweetened condensed milk – might do the trick!
