My family loves rotisserie chicken. There is just so much I can do with it and the leftovers. I’m known for picking one up every time I go to Costco, but over the past few years, Hubbyman and I have perfected our skills at making them at home. We usually make two or three at a time, just so we have enough for leftovers. I’m so excited to be partnering with Gold’n Plump® Chicken to show y’all how to make the perfect rotisserie chicken at home. I’ve also included my family’s favorite basic chicken rub recipe plus some leftover ideas.
How to Make the Perfect Rotisserie Chicken
- If your grill does not have a built-in rotisserie, then check them out on Amazon or your local store where grills are sold
- No grill, you can use a stand alone rotisserie appliance
- Dry the chicken with paper towels before adding oil or seasonings, keeping it dry helps the skin get crispy
- No need to baste the chicken, a chicken on a rotisserie bastes itself
- Make sure the chicken is secure so it will turn evenly
- Watch the first few rotations to make sure the counter weight is properly set and everything is balanced
- Know your grill and cook from medium-medium/high heat, best temperature is around 350F.
- Keep the grill lid closed to maintain the heat level
I had grand plans to make a tasty leftover recipe for y’all with our rotisserie chicken. The problem was, this was the best one we’d ever had {seriously, it was to-die-for} and we had no leftovers. My daughter had thirds and called it “heavenly chicken” as she gobbled up her supper.

Rotisserie Chicken and a Basic Rub Recipe
Once you learn how to make a rotisserie chicken at home, you'll never want to buy them at a store again. It's so easy! My basic rub recipe is great to use on other types of poultry, too.
Ingredients
- 1 fryer chicken (I use Gold'n Plump® All Natural Whole Chicken)
- 2-3 tbls olive oil
- basic chicken rub
Basic Rub Recipe
- 1 1/2 tsps poultry seasoning
- 1 tsp salt
- 3/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp lemon pepper
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Combine rub ingredients in a small bowl. Preheat grill to medium.
- Remove chicken from packaging and dry thoroughly with paper towels. Drizzle with olive oil and rub all over chicken. Sprinkle half the rub on one side of chicken and rub all over to coat, flip over and add remaining rub to second side.
- Tie legs together and flip wings up to keep them from falling while on the rotisserie.
- Thread rotisserie bar through the cavity of the chicken. Fit the prongs tightly over the chicken and place onto the rotisserie. Watch the first few cycles around to make sure the chicken doesn't move and everything is working.
- Cook chicken 20-30 minutes per pound of chicken. Test for doneness by inserting thermometer into the chicken. Internal temperature should be 165F.
