It’s party time! I love simple appetizers that can be made in advance and these BBQ bacon meatball skewers are done in only 15 minutes. So invite your friends over for a New Year’s party, Super Bowl party, or just because you have this awesome new recipe to share and then fire up your grill. These are best over an outdoor grill, but I realize it’s not grilling weather everywhere right now. Use a little indoor grill and these will still be just a tasty.
I’m so excited to be partnering with Gold’n Plump® Chicken again to bring you this last fabulous chicken recipe. I have honestly fallen in love with all of their chicken products, especially this 90% lean Ground Chicken. It is full of amazing flavor without the heaviness of ground beef.
We are having a couple of big parties over the next couple of months and will be serving up these bites both times. Cooking them on the skewers and then serving with a little extra warm BBQ sauce make them the perfect party food. Plus, since it’s chicken and only half a piece of bacon, they are pretty figure friendly {ya know…to stay in line with all those eat healthy resolutions}. I’ve also made these meatballs gluten free, dairy free, and egg free, though you’d never know it!
Even though they are gluten free and figure friendly, Hubbyman has given the guys seal of approval. So they are even perfect for Super Bowl parties and potlucks! The guys will love them!

BBQ Bacon Wrapped Meatballs
These bacon wrapped meatballs are juicy and delicious, made with ground turkey. Grilled appetizers like these meatballs are perfect for summer parties!
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1/4 cup gluten free bread crumbs
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- 1/4 cup BBQ sauce, plus more for basting
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 1 tbsp minced scallions
- 8 slices thin cut bacon, slices cut in half
Instructions
- Preheat grill to medium-high heat.
- In a large bowl, combine first 9 ingredients. Use hands to gently combine, the key to a moist and tender meatball is not overworking it.
- Lightly oil hands to keep mixture from sticking. Using a large cookie scoop (1-2 tbsp size), scoop out mixture and roll gently into a circle and set aside. You will get 16 ping pong ball sized meatballs. Wrap each meatball in a half slice of bacon and place seem side down into a grill basket.
- Cook over medium-high heat for about 10-12 minutes, rotating often to cook evenly and crisp bacon. Baste bacon meatballs several times with extra BBQ sauce. Keep a close eye on the grill as there will be flare-ups from the bacon fat.
- Serve warm with a skewer or toothpick and even more BBQ sauce for dipping, if desired.

Looks like an awesome appetizer for my birthday party next month, thanks!
Deb says
These sound & look very appetizing! Great looking pictures..Can’t wait to give them a try!
Lizzie says
Do you have any suggestions for baking these instead of grilling?
Wendy O'Neal says
Lizzie…I haven’t tried baking them, but I would try putting them on a rack with a pan underneath. Bake around 375F and turn every 10-15 minutes so they crisp up.
Edward says
Those look delicious (in a heart attack sort of of way 😉 )
Wendy O'Neal says
Lol Edward! They aren’t that bad for you since they are grilled & made with ground chicken and half a slice of bacon. Now…if you eat 6 of them…that’s a different story. 🙂
