Best Grilled Asparagus
When the weather is nice, the kids want to spend all evening outside and I want to be with them. I want to play, hang out, enjoy our backyard, and sip an iced tea. Having several meals that I can make completely out on the grill gets me out of the kitchen and spending time with my family. It’s quick and easy and I also just serve it outside for summer al fresco dining. I love long summer days because our backyard is the place to be when the sun starts to set…yes even in Phoenix.
We love asparagus in our house, it’s probably my family’s favorite vegetable. I buy it no matter the cost, but we have found we prefer the thin, tall fresh asparagus stalks over the short, fat ones.
I recently shared my Grilled Chicken with a Mustard Glaze and it was such a huge hit with my family plus I served this grilled asparagus with it. We use our grill several days a week during the summer so it seems fitting to make our side dishes out on the grill too. There really is nothing to it and works with so many different veggies such as broccoli, zucchini, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, eggplant, the list goes on and on. The only change would be the cooking time. Once you learn how easy this easy {and how flavorful the vegetables are} you will be trying to grill all your veggies!
How to Grill Asparagus
You’ll be surprised at the wonderful flavor that grilling brings out in your vegetables. Even the pickiest of kids {and adults} will love their veggies this way. This really is the only way we grill our vegetables. No need for fancy sauces or marinades….you only need 3 ingredients for this amazing and quick side dish!
Just simply season trimmed asparagus spears with olive oil, salt, and pepper (if desired). To change up the flavors, try adding a little fresh garlic, squeeze of lemon juice, some parmesan cheese, or just keep it simple.
Still wondering how to cook asparagus on the grill? The easiest way is to grill over a medium high heat grill using a grill basket to contain all those rolling stalks, so they don’t fall through the grates. Stay close by so they don’t burn…it only takes about 10 minutes and a couple shakes/rotations of the grill basket for them to be cooked. Cook until fork tender and just until there are some char marks. The tips will char quickly if you aren’t careful.
