Kids of all ages will love making their own Campfire Ice Cream Cone Desserts on your next campout.
Seriously y’all….the best thing to hit our campsite in years were these Campfire Ice Cream Cone Desserts. I literally cleaned out my pantry, packed everything in little baggies, and brought it with us. It was a fun activity to keep the kids entertained for a little bit too.
One thing that is a must is making sure to pick up some heavy duty tinfoil at the store. You’ll find it in the same section as the regular foil…just make sure you get the heavy duty stuff.
Basically, take an ice cream and stuff some marshmallow in the bottom (to plug the hole and keep the fillings inside). Wrap the ice cream cone with heavy duty foil, leaving the top open. Let the kids {and adults} go to town stuffing their cone with whatever you can find. Great toppings include:
- sprinkles
- nuts
- coconut
- chocolate chips
- white chocolate chips
- butterscotch chips (or any other yummy flavor)
- M&M’s
- Reese’s Pieces
- other bite size chocolate candies
- Peanut Butter Cups
- small caramel pieces
- whatever else you can think of
After the cones are filled to the top, add more marshmallows and seal entire cone well with foil. Place over a hot fire, turning every minute (use long grilling tongs and an oven mitt) until everything is hot and melty and gooey.
I even found gluten free ice cream cones and took some dairy free chocolate chips so I could make one too….it was delicious. Everyone loved being able to create their own.
TIP: Bring a black sharpie and mark the foil to try to keep them straight. We didn’t think about that, but the kids knew instantly which was there’s.
