I love living in the Phoenix metro area…there is just so much to do. But Scottsdale is definitely the place to visit and play on the weekends! Last weekend we loaded up the car and headed for a fun day in Scottsdale! We ended up going hiking and then over to Giligin’s Bar & Grill for a late lunch.
We love hiking and try to get out at least once a month to explore all the wonderful mountains and trails in our area. We actually had never been hiking in the mountains around Scottsdale even though they have hundreds of miles of trails.
Since it’s cooler out right now, hiking in the Valley is perfect! We spent about 3 hours hiking around the McDowell Sonoran Preserves and enjoying the wildlife, spring flowers, and each other. It’s fun to spend time as a family with no distractions. But after 3 hours of hiking in the sun we were famished!
We found a local bar Giligin’s that sounded like a ton of fun and headed over. I wouldn’t say it’s family friendly, but during the day it wasn’t too bad (it would be super fun to go in the evening without the kids). The kids had fun playing the games, especially this giant connect four game. It’s the largest (non-electronic) version I’ve ever seen. We had a blast playing!
Let’s talk about the food, shall we. We were starving so we ordered 2 appetizers and 3 entrees for the four of us. I told you we were hungry. But what we didn’t realize was how HUGE their portions were. I even mentioned it to the waitress and she said, “Welcome to Giligin’s!” Apparently, they are known for their huge portion sizes.
Even though the portions were huge…their prices were not! We had the 2 appetizers, 3 entrees, 2 alcoholic beverages (and a coupon for one free entree) and our bill was $48. I know…screaming deal, right!?!?!?
The kids were super troopers the day we went out, so we surprised them with one last stop at TCBY. There are only a few left in the Valley and one just happened to be right down the road in Scottsdale. I had heard they had a new yogurt made with almond milk and was vegan and gluten free. Of course I was excited to give it a try! It was amazing…and the kids loved getting a cool treat on a warm winter’s day.
