I created an entire party table for Valentine’s Day, it was full of all sorts of yummy treats, mixes, and candies. Seriously, it was a child’s dream come true.
Homemade Trail Mix Valentine Snack
But, to my surprise, the kids’ favorite treat on the whole table was this super simple and healthy mix of red goodies. It really is so easy to throw together as you don’t have to make any melted chocolate or other topping….it’s just a throw it all in the bowl and go! It’s like a homemade trail mix valentine snack.
I make a double batch at the beginning of February and my kids munch on it for a couple weeks. just store it in an airtight container or a zip-top bag and it should last through Valentine’s Day if it’s not gobbled up before then.
Healthy Valentine Treats
There are a few sugary items, but you could limit those to half of what the recipe calls for if you really want it to be healthier. However, the lack of chocolate coating plus the addition of freeze dried strawberries, chex, and raisins really does make this pretty healthy considering all the other sweets you’ll be offered.
Healthy Valentine’s Day Snacks
Just because it’s Valentine’s day doesn’t mean you can’t make wise choices for special treats. Make this healthy snack mix, strawberries and cream, or popcorn with a little white chocolate drizzle. It’s all about portion control of those special treats.
Having Trouble Finding Freeze Dried Strawberries?
I’ve found them at Trader Joe’s and sometimes Costco, but check Whole Foods or the natural food section at your grocery store. I like the texture of the freeze dried strawberries, but if you can find dehydrated strawberries (especially without sugar) that would work. Or you can just order them here and skip running all over town trying to find them.
