I think I make chili every week from Oct-March…every single year. My family has their favorite version that we make most often, but because we have it so often I like to change things up. I made this Instant Pot Chili a couple weeks ago and it was a huge hit with everyone, so it’s going on our chili rotation.
It was such a hit, that I’m making it for the big game coming up when we have a house full of friends…but I’m making this DIY Chili Bar! I cannot begin to tell you how much my family (and all the neighbor kids) loved this Chili Bar. Everyone’s bowl of chili was different and totally them.
{Side note: I had never really shopped the food section at Cost Plus World Market until a couple weeks ago. Let me tell you…they have some killer finds and it makes this chili delicious! Tomatoes from Italy, Global Beers, and fresh chili powder!!! YUM!}
I’m all about the easy entertaining! Aren’t you?!?!
Making the chili in the Instant Pot means I can start it right before the game starts and it’s hot and ready before half time! Just brown the ground beef on the saute setting and then add the rest of the ingredients. Pressure for 25 minutes. Super easy!
However, while at World Market…it hit me to do a Chili Bar and let everyone have fun with tons of toppings. From classic onions, cheese, corn chips…to crazy things like croutons and pistachios.
How Create A Chili Bar
I love creating DIY Bars for parties and big gatherings, like my Pizza Bar and this Chili Bar. It lets everyone pick what they love and makes entertaining a breeze. While I was out shopping, I picked up a ton of gorgeous bowls and a wooden tray to contain all those bowls that I filled with lots of goodies.
I added a little pop of color with the flowers.
For the chili bar, I pretty much cleaned out my pantry and fridge with little odds and ends. My chili bar included:
popcorn
goldfish
corn chips
croutons
limes
green onions
jalapenos
pistachios
cheddar cheese
avocado
bacon
tomatoes
cilantro
hot sauce
But really, you can add just about anything! Make it your own and go crazy!
Instant Pot Chili Recipe and Chili Bar
In less than an hour, this Instant Pot Chili Recipe will be hot and ready and taste like it's been simmering all day. Add all the fixin's for a fun Chili Bar that will be the talk of your homegating party!
Ingredients
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1 (15-ounce) can pinto beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 2 tbls tomato paste
- 2 tbls dried minced onion
- 1 1/2 tbls chili powder
- 1 tbl flour (white or gluten free blend)
- 1 1/2 tsps coarse himalayan pink salt
- 1 tsp dried minced garlic
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1/2 cup Chocolate Stout Beer
Instructions
- In a 6qt or 8qt Instant Pot, brown the ground beef using the saute setting until cooked through, about 6 minutes. Hit the cancel button and drain any fat with a turkey baster. Add the remaining ingredients to the meat and stir to combine.
- Place the lid on the pot, making sure the gasket is fitted properly and the pressure release valve is closed. Pressure for 15 minutes on the bean/chili setting.
- Once the chili is done, use the quick release method or let the pressure decrease naturally if you aren't eating right away.
- To serve, ladle the chili into bowls and top with any or all of the topping options as desired.
Ideas to Top Chili:
corn chips, cheddar cheese, diced onion/green onions, Slap Ya Mama Hot Sauce, croutons, cheesy fish crackers, avocado, cilantro, jalapenos, popcorn, salsa, bacon, pistachios/nuts
