Hi there, Rachel here again from {i love} my disorganized life. I am so excited that the weather is finally starting to cool off here in Southern Arizona. I love spending quiet afternoons baking, drinking hot cocoa, reading and watching movies. I also love a good pot of stew or chili, so when I saw this recipe from the Mast Brothers, I knew I had to try it.
Spicy Chocolate Chili blends the comforting taste of grandma’s chili and the rich flavor of cocoa. It’s a perfect mix.
{I made a few changes}
Spicy Chocolate Chili
Here’s all you need:
1 lb ground turkey
1 med onion, diced
1 lg minced jalapeno
1 lg diced green bell pepper
1 lg diced red bell pepper
5 cloves minced garlic
2 Tbsp cocoa powder
4 Tbsp vegetable oil, divided
2 oz good quality 72% dark chocolate, chopped
1 Tbsp Italian herbs
1 packet chili seasoning mix
2 14-oz cans pinto beans, undrained {you can also use kidney or a combination of the two}
28 0z can crushed tomatoes
Salt and pepper to taste
Here’s all you do:
Brown the meat on high in a large dutch oven.
Add 2 Tbsp oil; add onions and all peppers, browning until soft
Add garlic, herbs and seasoning packet, toasting until you can smell the spices
Add tomatoes and 1 can of water
Add beans; stir until well combined
Mix cocoa and remaining 2 Tbsp of oil; add to chili; add chopped chocolate and mix well.
Simmer uncovered 25-30 min; salt and pepper to taste
Serve with shredded cheese, sour cream, and/or green onions
Makes 8-10 servings

Cold Saturday here in Michigan, so I decided it would be a great morning to put a pot of chili on the stove to simmer. My husband and I had it for lunch and am pleased to say it’s a huge hit and a keeper.
I have a recipe I love to make using McCormick’s Cocoa Chili Blend but unfortunately it is no longer available at any store near me so when I saw this recipe on Pinterest I decided to give it a try. It did not disappoint, my husband has had two bowls already and I’m sure he’ll be in and out of the pot all day.
Thanks for sharing, it’s going to be my new “go to.”

Julie says
when you say add 1 can of water — is that a 28 oz can (the tomato can) or a smaller 14 oz can (the bean can)
Wendy O'Neal says
Hi Julie….start with a 14oz can of water and add more if you need it. :).
